The idea that we must achieve perfection in life is necessary to let go en route to contentment (santosha). Even while holding still in a yoga posture, we experience a state of flux: flows of current, prana, breath, blood. From birth to death, moment to moment, all things change. Even if perfection is momentarily achieved, it is fleeting. For this reason, we must learn to let go of clinging to perfection because it can cause disappointment and frustration.
If another person has demanded perfection of you, begin to let their demands go as well, realizing you do not need to please anyone and you can not take another person’s judgment personally, even if they hold one. All humans are imperfect and we live in an ever-changing imperfect world. Once you learn to let yourself be human, and other people too, you’ll experience greater self-acceptance, self-love, less vulnerability and more joy- this will pass on to others you interact with without any effort on your part.
This is step toward santosha.
